Water conditioner at Piacenza Sports Center

This sports center is a complex consisting of a gymnasium, locker rooms, showers and two swimming pools of different sizes: a large, 520 cubic meters, and a smaller one. The complex uses well water, to control the limestone it uses a softener, for reducing the bacterial load it uses chlorine.

The most important development was to hold within the law limits (<0.4 mg / l) the amount of combined chlorine of the largest swimming pool so, considering also the size of the water recirculation pipe of the pool, we decided to install an electronic unit for diam.160. However, with the availability and openness of the system properties, we tried a few times to reposition the machine in order to see what we could get.
On February 20th, 2013, one unit was installed in 5 ml downstream of the filters and at one meter from the pumps. Before the commissioning of the device, the following observations were made:
• Combined chlorine 0:58 (detected by the automatic chlorine dispenser)
• Temperature recirculating water 28.6 ° C.
• PH 7.19
• hardness 41 French degrees
• Conductivity 872

After a week, the results obtained were the following:
• Halved the quantity of flocculant
• Halved the number of backwashing
• Visible increase in water clarity

On 03rd of March, the technician moved the unit before the heat exchanger: in a week the result was the clogging of the heat exchanger due to the previously formed material detachment (limestone and bio film) on pipe walls. With what  the effectiveness of the anti-limescale function technology was proved.

However, the main goal remained the decrease in the combined chlorine for which March 14th the unit was repositioned on the tube at the exit of clearing bath, about 10 ml from the delivery pump to the filters.

After one week the amount of chlorine feed was decreased by 20% and after another week of a further 10%.

Because the quantity of chlorine introduced is a function of the free chlorine in the water, it became obvious that if there was more chlorine in the water this had to come from other sources, ie from the combined chlorine that was decomposed by the technology employed in the free chlorine and organic material; this last one was flocculated and stopped by the filters.

The last relocation was made bringing the initial position the device with the following certified results of the attached analysis laboratory:
• Chlorine Free 0.90
• Chlorine amines (combined chlorine) 0.35

The chemicals dosing equipment, supplied and calibrated by the same supplier, has continued to give all times different data and it was not possible to have a confrontation with the supplier.

Our analytical results were confirmed by two different analytical laboratories not connected to each other.
